At Brevet we encourage guests to savour every ride in the build up to the Maratona. After 12 years of running Maratona trips with riders from all over the world we have the volume of race week warm up rides finely tuned.
Tuesday – Bike Set Up and Welcome Ride
Distance: 12km
Passo: Passo Campolongo (1,875m)
After the transfer from Venice Marco Polo Airport we will set up the bikes and head out on a short Welcome Ride to introduce you to riding in the Dolomites!
Our first climb of the week takes us up the Passo Campolongo (1,875m), this is a good opportunity to recce the first climb of the Sella Ronda loop on race day.
With a client to guide ratio of 6:1 we focus on riding in small groups with riders of a similar pace and we always regroup at the top of every climb. For the next three days this allows you to get used to climbing in the mountains and learn to pace your efforts evenly. Our support car carries extra nutrition, water and layers and is a welcome sight at the top of the climb. Just remember to smile at the camera on the way up!
Wednesday – Passo Falzarego and Passo Valparolo
Distance: 52km
Passo: Passo Campolongo (1,875m), Passo Falzarego (2,105m) and Passo Valparola (2,200m)
The second loop of the Maratona circuit takes in the twin challenge of the Passo Falzarego (2,105m) and Passo Valparola (2,200m). Before we get to the high lunar landscape of these twin passes we will ride up the Passo Campolongo (1,875m), a key climb in the Maratona route that you will climb twice on race day.
This ride is a crucial recce ride to understand the pacing needed to meet the cut off time that will allow long course riders to take on the Passo Giau on race day.
Thursday – Sella Ronda Recce
Distance: 55km
Passo: Passo Campolongo (1,875m), Passo Pordoi (2,239m), Passo Sella (2,244m) and Passo Gardena (2,121m)
Today we ride the first part of the Maratona dles Dolomites course. The famous 55km Sella Ronda circuit includes Passo Campolongo (1,875m), Passo Pordoi (2,239m), Passo Sella (2,244m) and Passo Gardena (2,121m). Today’s ride is a great opportunity to start working on pacing your efforts on the climbs so that you don’t get carried away on race day.
Friday – Option 1: Anti-Clockwise Sella Ronda
Distance: 55km
Passo: Passo Gardena (2,121m), Passo Sella (2,244m), Passo Pordoi (2,239m) and Passo Campolongo (1,875m)
The same ride two days in a row? Think again. This wonderful circuit has a completely different feel when completed anti-clockwise. This option is for the riders who are here to climb and savour every KM.
Friday – Option 2: Passo Gardena – Espresso Ride
Our Friday morning spin up the Passo Gardena for espresso and apple strudel on the terrace overlooking the Dolomites is a popular option amongst guests wishing to taper before Sunday. This 18km out and back ride departs a little later allowing you a precious lie in and is ridden at a conversational pace.
Saturday – Rest Day and Race Village
Distance: 15km
A gentle ride to San Leonardo and back to collect our race numbers allows us to take in the atmosphere of the Maratona Village.
After a Tour de France Grand Depart Pasta Party the afternoon is a great opportunity to book a massage or relax in the hotel spa.
Dinner at our conveniently located hotel right next to the start of the Maratona dles Dolomites will allow you to get in plenty of carbo loading pasta and get an early night.
Sunday – Maratona dles Dolomites
Maratona: 138km with 4,190m of climbing
Middle: 106km with 3,090m of climbing
Sellaronda: 55km with 1,780m of climbing
Race day! Today you’ll add a number of mythical Italian climbs to your cycling palmarès starting with the Passo Campolongo (1,875m), Passo Pordoi (2,239m), Passo Sella (2, 244m), Passo Gardena (2,121m), Passo Giau (2,236m) and finally the Passo Valparola (2,200m).
For more information check out our Maratona dles Dolomites guide.
Our hotel is just a few minutes from the start so you’ll be able to enjoy a relaxed start to the day. Breakfast will be served early in our cycling friendly hotel. After the race we will refuel at the pasta party, catch up over well earned beers at the Brevet Club House and head back to the hotel for a celebratory dinner.
Monday – Venice
After transferring to Venice Airport guests with evening flights may have time to loosen off the legs and learn about the beautiful city of Venice. You can store your bags securely at the airport and it’s quick and easy to take a return water taxi into Venice.
There is more to life than just cycling and flying to Venice and not seeing Italian Casanova Capital would be a waste. Check out these recommendations for convenient airport and city centre hotels so that you can extend your holiday and have some time to explore Venice.
Can I do it?

The Maratona dles Dolomites holiday is one of the toughest cycling sportives in Europe, featuring climbs regularly used in the Giro d’Italia.

Therefore each cycling holiday is designed to be suitable for varying fitness levels. Within the group people will have different strengths and weakness, some will love hill climbing but might be slower on the flat sections where you might be stronger.
Clearly you need to be fit to get the most of the holiday and cycling in the Alps is much more rewarding when you see your pre holiday training pay off as you climb Alpine cols and surpass your expectations. Our free training plan is a great place to start and signing up for our newsletter will give you monthly training and nutrition tips to help you train smarter.

Maratona dles Dolomites FAQs
For general questions about all Brevet Cycling Holidays please see our FAQs.
The following information relates directly to our Maratona dles Dolomites cycling holiday:
Q: Does this package include guaranteed Maratona entry?
A: Yes. Your holiday includes guaranteed entry to the sold out Maratona dles Dolomites sportive. As an Official Maratona Tour Operator our guests benefit from starting in a priority starting grid ahead of riders who secured a place in the general ballot.
Q: I have a Maratona ballot place – can I still join the Brevet group?
A: Yes. We will give you a coupon code to reduce your holiday balance payment by the same amount as the Maratona entrance fee.
Q: I’d like to bring my non cycling partner – is that possible?
A: Yes. Non cycling partners are very welcome and where possible they can even follow the riders in the Brevet Team Car for one of our warm up rides to enjoy the spectacular scenery. If your partner likes the outdoors then there are plenty of things to do in Corvara.
To book your partners place simply select “Non Riding Guest” and “Deposit” from the options above then press “Add to Cart”. This will add them to your cart. To add your place press “Continue Shopping” and on this Maratona page select “Twin or Double Occupancy” and “Deposit”. Press “Add to Cart” again and you should now have both deposits in your Cart ready to Checkout.
Be sure you have selected your partner’s room as either “Standard” or “Superior” in line with your room choice.
For step by step booking instructions see our How To Pay guide.
Q: I’d like to come for the weekend only – is that possible?
A: No. There are a number of reasons we we offer a 6 night holiday for the Maratona.
We believe that your holiday time is precious. Getting away from the commitments of family, friends and work is important for our souls. Spending time riding in the mountains is the perfect antidote to our busy lifestyles.
But, the mountains are unpredictable. It’s not unknown for mountain passes to be blocked by snow in the middle of the summer and for sportives to be cancelled or badly effected by the weather. That’s why all our sportive holidays include warm up rides in the days leading up to the sportive so that you are guaranteed to get in some unforgettable rides in the mountains!
Finally, Maratona week really is a festival of cycling. Over 9,000 riders descend on the Dolomites and the atmosphere is unforgettable. The Maratona dles Dolomites is an extremely important event for the Alta Badia region and understandably the race organisers and hotels request that all Official Tour Operators offer a minimum stay of 4 nights.
So…re-work that schedule and give you and your bike the holiday you deserve!
